For its first season as an entity in F1, Aston Martin changed the color of its cars from Racing Point’s pink and white to a British racing green-inspired paint scheme. Now, the team thinks it might want to change that a little bit.

The problem, according to Aston Martin F1 CEO Otmar Szafnauer, is that the dark green, a historic color for the British automaker, doesn’t show as well on TV as it does in real life, according to The Race.

“I believe we should be looking at making it pop a little bit more on television – without losing the green when you’re looking at it and it’s outside,” said Szafnauer. “I don’t know if we can do that but that’s one thing that we’re looking to do, just to make sure that it differentiates itself on TV from some of the other darker cars.”

The team was previously known as BWT Racing Point and the pink color reflected that of its title sponsor. With BWT remaining as a partner, the 2021 car has some pink highlights that grace the dark green paint. Ahead of the Styrian Grand Prix, BWT’s CEO Andreas Weissenbacher told Speedweek that he lamented the loss of the pink car on the grid.

Although he understands the change, he said that the pink car would attract more attention and even noted that it might help Aston Martin F1‘s sponsors get more recognition. In fact, he told the outlet that he changed BWT’s corporate branding to pink in order to differentiate it from other brands.

That’s exactly Aston Martin F1’s problem now since both the leading cars sport dark liveries. While the Mercedes is simply black and the Red Bull is a dark shade of blue, from a distance, that can be a hard distinction to make out on track.

Szafnauer, however, believes that the switch from pink to green was the right one for the team.

“With the name like Aston Martin and Aston being green traditionally, and we’re growing the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula 1 team, I would think it will stay green,” Szafnauer told The Race. “The green color suits us, that’s for sure. It’s a stunning color in the sun and when you’re looking at it in person.”
