'Fast Moving' Fire Breaks Out Near Thousand Oaks, Mandatory Evacs

The Hill Fire started just after 2 p.m. and ballooned to thousands of acres in a matter of hours.

VENTURA COUNTY, CA — Firefighters in Ventura County are working to contain to a “fast moving’ brush fire this afternoon. The Hill Fire, which started around 2 p.m. in the area of Hill Canyon in Santa Rosa, has burned at between 8,000 to 10,000 acres as of 9 p.m., fire officials said.

Mandatory evacuations are underway for Camarillo Springs, Vallecito Trailer Park California State University Channel Islands, Dos Vientos and Point Magu Naval Base.

An emergency evacuation center has been established at Borchard Community Center located at 190 Reino Road in Newbury Park. Another emergency evacuation was established at the Camarillo Community Center located at 1605 East Burnley St. Camarillo, CA 93010. There are N-95 masks available at each center, and both are accepting small animals. Check for the most recent evacuation information.

Officials have closed a section of U.S. Route 101 in both directions at the scales, according to Ventura County Fire Twitter.
