WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A workgroup hopes to have a potential COVID-19 county ordinance ready for early August.
Wednesday’s monthly meeting of Marathon County’s Health and Human Services Committee revisited the work on a COVID-19 ordinance by the Wisconsin Counties’ Association. A workgroup was put together last month by the group to put together guidelines for potential county ordinances.

The workgroup has held three meetings since it was formed in mid-June. Marathon County’s representative on the workgroup, County Health Officer Joan Theurer says the workgroup has identified two main components when working to establish Local Communicable Disease Ordinance guidelines.
“Part of it is just to give a background in terms of what is the authority that local health departments and health officers have. Also looking at roles and responsibilities when it comes to controlling communicable disease.
“The other piece then is looking at what should the components be of an ordinance. That includes things like authority, purpose, and duties of health officers.”
The WCA workgroup is made up of representatives from several different groups in the state. Some groups represented include public health officers, corporation councils, county administrations, the restaurant association, and representatives from the Wisconsin Counties’ Association.
The workgroup hopes to have a draft of their guidance for communicable disease ordinances to present to the county in early August.
