A Bahrain cout has sentenced 29 people found guilty of planning and carrying out a bomb attack on police, with sentences ranging from five years to life in prison, AFP reported.

Additionally, Bahrain has revoked the citizenship of two people convicted, terror crime prosecution chief Ahmed al-Hammadi said in a statement published by the official Bahrain News Agency.

"The convictions relate to attempted murder of policemen, using and possessing explosives and weapons, rioting, and receiving and providing explosives," Hammadi said.

They were also found guilty of "training in order to commit terrorist crimes," he added.

The sentences were related to a bomb explosion on Dec. 19 last year in a Shia village. Three policemen were left slightly wounded, and no one was killed.

The identities of the defendants were not revealed and no further details about the convictions were given.

The Gulf kingdown, which has a majority Shia population, is ruled by a Sunni dynasty and has seen several attacks against police, as well as an uprising since 2011. Demands have ranged from instituting a constitutional monarchy to overthrowing the monarchy altogether.

Many of those opposing the regime have been detained and face heavy sentences, including loss of citizenship and life in prison.
