Woodland teachers head back to school with tentative agreement
Teachers have reached a tentative agreement with the Woodland Joint Unified School District just in time for the start of the school year.
The Woodland Education Association announced Monday that the union had reached a tentative deal with the district following a months-long impasse.
Teachers and administrators were negotiating over compensation and health contributions. Early in the negotiations, they settled a disagreement over grievance policies.
Details of the agreement were not public, but one teacher indicated they had received a very small pay increase.
The district serves 18 schools with more than 10,000 students.
At Pioneer High School, seniors gathered at 6 a.m. to watch the sunrise Wednesday on their final year.
Many were not aware of the turmoil behind the scenes that spanned the summer.
Class President Tatum Wentworth said at the traditional event that students were eager to get back to class.
"It's cool, but it's also emotional, it's something we all share," Wentworth said.
