Scottish health workers plead for coronavirus tests as No 10 sends medical robots to England

Nicola Sturgeon has said that she cannot increase coronavirus testing overnight as health workers in isolation plead to return to the front line.

Doctors and nurses have been told to stay at home if they have a cough or a fever, but Scotland’s limited testing regime means that many cannot know if they are infected.

They asked for support as it was revealed that Downing Street had dispatched the Royal Navy to collect two medical robots from Dundee University to test health workers in London.

The Scottish government has more than doubled testing from about 750 a day two weeks ago to about 1,900 yesterday, with plans to increase the rate to 3,500 by the end of the month.
