Paper Recycling Area Destroyed In Woodbridge Recycling Plant Fire

The paper recycling section of Bayshore Recycling was completely destroyed in Monday's blaze that tore through the well-known business.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — The offices and the paper recycling section of Bayshore Recycling plant were completely destroyed in Monday's fast-moving fire that tore through one of New Jersey's most well-known and family-run recycling businesses.

As Patch reported, the fire broke out at the Bayshore Recycling Center plant in Keasbey Monday afternoon, Dec. 16. Because the place where the fire started was buried so far back in the building, it swelled to six-alarm status. Fire crews from the FDNY even came in to help.

The fire started in the cardboard recycling section of the plant.

"The fire did destroy our paper recycling business and offices. However, and most
significantly, no one was injured," said Bayshore owner Valerie Montecalvo, as reported by MyCentralJersey. "We are also very fortunate that our core businesses, Bayshore Recycling Corp and Bayshore Soil Management are operational for processing of Class B materials (brick, block concrete, asphalt, clean and contaminated soil, along with aggregate production) and were unaffected."

Nobody was injured in the fire, which spread rapidly through the recycling center and raged for hours Monday afternoon. Thousands of drivers driving over the Driscoll Bridge could see the dramatic fire. Smoke could be seen for miles throughout Central New Jersey.
