MILFORD, CT — Two weeks into the new school year and Milford Public Schools have seen one positive coronavirus case.

Milford schools spokeswoman Kathryn Bonetti said there has been one confirmed COVID-19 case at Jonathan Law High School and that was on Sept. 14.

In a letter dated Sept. 14, school officials said a "member of the Jonathan Law High School community has tested positive for COVID-19." No other details were given.

School officials said they decided to keep the school open as the person who tested positive wasn't in school on Sept. 14, and they have implemented "strict protocols" to limit the exposure in school including wearing of masks, 6-feet of spacing between desks, handwashing, and deep cleaning of buildings.

"In keeping with our protocols, Milford Public School staff have ensured appropriate cleaning and disinfection measures have been taken. Individuals who may have been in close contact with the positive case have been notified directly by the Milford Health Department. Those who may have potentially been exposed have been asked to self-quarantine for at least 14 days and to reach out to their health care provider to obtain testing," officials said.
