Hannah Waddingham reveals she stills holds out hope third season of Ted Lasso won't be its final

Hannah Waddingham revealed that she still holds out hope that the upcoming third season of Ted Lasso will not be its last on Thursday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. 

'We don't know that for definite,' said Hannah, 47, while wearing a steel blue tank dress on the ABC talk show.

'Jason always said there was a beginning, a middle and an end to at least this story. I hope not,' she added, referencing Ted Lasso developer and star Jason Sudeikis, 46.

The Emmy Award-winning British actress told guest host RuPaul, 61, that she already gets emotional thinking about saying goodbye to her character football team owner Rebecca Welton.

'Even if we left it at this, Jason [Sudeikis] has pointed out that's just where we leave them for now,' Hannah. 'And that's how I'm going to have to think about it or else I'm going to be a terrible mess. It's ridiculous that I already get emotional about someone that's fictional.'

With her recent second Emmy nomination for her acting on the show, RuPaul asked if he was already shopping for an outfit.

'We are just having meetings about it,' Hannah said. 'It's a massive privilege to even be in the blooming room so I want to make sure I get it right.'

Hannah said she was shocked last year when she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the role.

'I genuinely thought when he said my name I thought he had gotten to the end of the list because I'm W,' Hannah said. 'So I was like a Meerkat. I was like a bleached Meerkat.'

'You said a naughty word on television,' RuPaul said.

'I'm English,' Hannah said. 'You have no idea how much I'm controlling myself all the time. I come from theater and I'm English. You are lucky you get anything but that.'

RuPaul asked if the optimism of the Ted Lasso character has rubbed off on her.

'I think it has definitely rubbed off on the British community,' Hannah said. 'I think universally, globally, I feel like we got into the habit of always roasting people and always that's the funny thing instead of celebrating people and that could be funny as well.'

Hannah said she was also very excited about being in the new Hocus Pocus 2 movie.

'Serious brownie points with my just about to turn eight daughter,' Hannah said. 'I was kind of summoned to the set to meet this glorious triumvirate of witches. I sat with the three ladies - Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker - with them in their costumes while they were having lunch. I was literally sitting there like a competition winner.'

RuPaul also asked her about her being in Rod Stewart's jukebox musical Tonight's The Night many years ago.

'I played Satan,' Hannah said. 'I wanted to do it because it's meant to be Rod Stewart's kind of view of Satan. It was the most amazing music with the most amazing voices.'

Hannah said she recalled how Rod started talking to her about her acid reflux on stage.

'He's giving me advice on what you can take for your stomach to settle it,' Hannah said. 'I'm like nobody would believe that I'm having this conversation with Rod Stewart.

Hannah said she was a big fan of Rod's songs and RuPaul added that most American audiences don't know that she was a beautiful singer.

'I know, 22 years knocking about on the West End Stage and Broadway,' Hannah said. 'I feel like I've been given, in my mid-40's, by you guys, a second lease on life trotting me out of the paddock in a different way.'

Hannah said she was shocked after she sang a Rick Astley song on Ted Lasso when Rick put out a video thanking her for using his song.

RuPaul then played a special video message for Hannah and RuPaul from Rick congratulating them both on their Emmy nominations. Rick even sang a portion of RuPaul's favorite song of his 'Take Me To Your Heart.'

'That's amazing,' Hannah said.
